Volunteers lead activities and exercises that encourage thinking, concentration, communication, and memory retention/recall in patients over the age of 65, and/or patients with mild to moderate dementia.QUALIFICATIONS

18 years of age or older

At Sacred Heart Children's Hospital, Volunteers play and/or discuss games with patients, siblings, and families to increase socialization in a positive way. May also assist in the support and maintenance of videogame and entertainment devices. 

Shifts: Weekday 3- to 4-hour shifts between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. 

With 644 beds, Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center & Children's Hospital is one of the largest hospitals in the Northwest, employing more than 4,000 health care professionals and support staff. Volunteers, who provide support to many hospital services, include 400 women, men and young people. For a few hours a week, you can be part of a world-class team at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center & Children's Hospital through its volunteer program. This is a place where medical miracles happen every day and where leading-edge research is translated into extraordinary care for patients and their families. Providence is also a place where healing occurs, not only by medical and surgical intervention, but by the touch of a hand, a shared smile, a listening ear, a prayer or a knowing wink. It's a place where you can make a difference through your acts of kindness, making life better for you and for those you help. We have a number of volunteer positions available. Once you complete an application and attend a volunteer orientation, we can place you in a position suited to your strengths. All volunteers must complete an application, a background check and a pre-service training. Volunteers will be placed in a department or division of the hospital after completion of the training to match your skills with the right service opportunity. Practicum students are welcome.
