Community Needs From: Gonzaga University

The Catalyst is an emergency supportive housing program that provides safe, private, dignified spaces to both men and women where they may temporarily live while taking steps to exit homelessness. Robust care coordination is provided onsite with access to housing-focused opportunities, connections to behavioral health services, primary care, and public benefits.

Volunteers are needed for our mentor program. Volunteers will spend one on one time with our participants by having a meal together, playing basketball outside, playing games, or just visiting. Other volunteer opportunities include serving meals, helping with activities or working on our donation closet.

Gonzaga Family Haven opened its doors to families experiencing homelessness in the Fall of 2021. As the building progresses, this affordable housing property will become the forever home for a total of 73 families by 2022. The Gonzaga Family Haven affordable housing complex is embedded with wraparound support services so that families can stabilize their lives through on-site case management, community events, and skill-building opportunities. Our goal is to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty for our residents and their families. Volunteers needed for tutoring.

Childbirth and Parenting Assistance (CAPA), a program of Catholic Charities of Spokane, serves pregnant women and parents with children ages 0—5 years of age. Since 1985, we have answered the call to support parents of young children. All are welcome, regardless of race, creed, or religious preference.

We have proudly served expecting mothers and fathers and families with children age newborn through 5 years of age for over 20 years! We offer: Counseling ♥ Toddler Time ♥ Parenting Classes ♥ Parent Mentors ♥ Diapers ♥ Maternity and Baby/Toddler Clothing

The mission of Catholic Charities Senior Services & Volunteer Chore Services is to assist low-income seniors and disabled adults to be able to continue to live independently in their own homes or apartments by providing free chore assistance from volunteers.

The program strives to find volunteers to help with chores such as housework, laundry, transportation, yard work, minor home repairs, and moving assistance, etc. Volunteers can choose which chore or chores they wish to help with and how often they want to help.  Volunteer Chore Services also welcomes help from groups wanting to do a one-time service project.

House of Charity: A Division of Catholic Charities, is a low-barrier homeless shelter that provides emergency services including meals, shelter, showers, laundry, case management, and various other services to an under-served population of homeless, transient, and poor men and women in the Spokane area while assuring preservation of individual dignity. The House of Charity accepts anyone in any condition, including the mentally ill and actively substance abusing.

There are many different opportunities to lend your time and talents, whether it be individually or in a group. Opportunities include but are not limited to; food prep and serving, Resource Room Assistant, food delivery van driving, donation sorting, emergency sleeping program check-in, lawn and tree care, and organizing a donation drive for our commonly needed items such as towels, socks, underwear, and hygiene items.

St. Margaret’s is a shelter for homeless families, located in the lower south hill section of Spokane. St. Margaret’s Shelter provides emergency and transitional shelter to promote positive life changes in a supportive, short-term environment. St. Margaret’s Shelter offers social services that include individualized case management to regain and stabilize housing for families experiencing homelessness.
