Kitchen Volunteers help prepare snacks and meals for children, volunteers, and staff.  Snacks and meals may serve up to 24 children and adults.  Kitchen Volunteers follow a set menu but are allowed flexibility and creativity as they become more comfortable in their position.  *4-hour weekly shifts, mornings or afternoons.

Reception Volunteers are the first point of contact between Vanessa Behan and the community.  Reception Volunteers assist families with the Diaper and Formula program, Community Sharing Room, and receiving donations.

Play with Children ages birth to age 12 while parents or guardians attend to court business on the Spokane County Courthouse Campus.  Childcare Volunteers get to be silly, share hugs and words of encouragement, and have fun!  This site is perfect for students because it tends not to be a busy as our main location, so students will probably have time to do homework.  *Regular shift required:  Thursdays, 1pm-5pm, or Fridays, 8am-1pm OR 1pm-5pm.  Must be at least 18 years old.

The Arc's Community Center operates Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Volunteers may teach crafts, elementary music, math, reading, and drama to members of the center, interact with them socially and recreationally or accompany them on day trips in the community. Our goal is to create an environment of learning social skills for our members and in turn, our members help create stronger advocates in all our volunteers. We strongly encourage that everyone should come one day into our Center, Your life will be changed for the better being with our members.

When a volunteer enters our program, they are trained with an hour orientation on what to except and to have any questions answered to help them feel more comfortable in our center. Along with the orientation into our program, volunteers will undergo a background check through DSHS. Those are completed and paid for by The Arc of Spokane.

There aren't any requirements on how many hours volunteers put in and days to come in are very flexible to individual schedules.  We invite anyone interested in coming into our centers to join our team. Whether it's just for a special event, on occasional breaks or having a regular schedule. We will work with you and find a good fit for your skills and talents.

The Social Media Intern would assist the Program Manager for Health and Wellness to create a social media strategy around mental health advocacy/education and our health and wellness programs. This could mean the planning for social media content as well as potentially assist in development of content creation. The ideal intern would have an interest in improving the social media strategy of non-profits as well as an interest in mental health and assisting in the development of an interesting and engaging social media brand.

The intern may need to assist in-person from our downtown office but can also work from home.

"Boba" Buddies is our Youth Program where Asian/Asian American students K-12 can join us for programming once a month.  The Boba Buddies program is run under our Health and Wellness program in an effort to build protective factors for young Asian and Asian American kids as part of our mental health programs. These protective factors include community and cultural identity building. We hope that Asian/Asian American kids will develop these protective factors so that they are less likely to have mental health issues as they get older. The program will include directed activities and games and a communal space for Asian/Asian American kids and their parents to hang out. We will provide after school snacks and some months will have special guests!

Volunteers will be asked to assist with crafts, set up/clean up, dispensing of boba and monitoring snacks. We tend to bring in families with young children and so assisting with little kids is very likely.

Do you love animals and are addicted to social media?  Why not combine these loves?  Come down and make the goofiest video of some of our pups or take the most amazing photos of our adorable kitties and make them go viral.  Help us reach people that we couldn’t otherwise and make a difference in the lives of homeless animals!

Our adoptable cats reside at all three local PetSmarts, all three local PetCos and the Kitty Cantina plus we often bring dogs or puppies to these adoption centers.  These animals get scooped up by adopters and go off to start their new lives. We found homes for over 4,000 cats and dogs last year! At PetSmart and Petco, store volunteers keep the adoption areas clean and tidy, socialize the kitties, and help with adoptions.

We depend on the kindness, love and homes of our foster parents to help us save hundreds of lives every year.  Members of our foster care program open up their homes for shelter animals.  They care for kittens or puppies until they are old enough for adoption, animals with illnesses and injuries until they are healed, and animals who need socialization or those who are not thriving in the shelter environment.  The time commitment varies upon the needs of the foster pet, but generally is between 2 weeks and 3 months. 

Fostering is a flexible, fun and rewarding volunteer experience, and requires a special person- able to invest themselves into the lives of foster pets, and let them go knowing they’ve helped save a life.  We provide all supplies foster parents need, from food and bedding to medication. While it is best to have some knowledge about animal behavior and health, we always try to match foster parents with animals whose needs are within your ability level, and we provide ongoing help and support throughout your foster experience. 

If you’re looking for a fun way to help shelter dogs and/or get your fitness steps in - look no further! Come volunteer at our shelter to walk dogs! Exercise and time socializing with people is so important for our canine critters that you’d be doing an amazing service for our dogs. Please note, some of our fur babies haven’t been taught leash etiquette and may be more of a workout than others. Our shelter staff and experienced volunteers will show you the ropes and help you select the dogs right for your comfort level. (We also have a Doggie Day Out Program that lets you take a dog our for a hike in the woods, a stroll in the park (not a dog park), or even a car buddy while you run errands.) Your time with the dog outside of the shelter helps us learn more about them so we can help find the best adoption match.

Greater Spokane County Meals on Wheels Prepares and distributes close to 4700 meals each week, and runs an average of 50 meal routes Monday through Friday across the entire 1800 square miles of the County of Spokane. Ensuring that our most vulnerable citizens have a nutritious meal and a friendly visit, for many of our clients the volunteer delivering their meal is the only person they will see all day. 

We are urgently seeking regular and substitute volunteer drivers to deliver meals to homebound elderly persons in your Spokane neighborhood. Volunteers pick up the meals from any one of various sites throughout the City of Spokane and Spokane County around 11:00AM. It takes approximately 1-1/2 to 2 hours to deliver a route of 10 to 15 stops. GSCMOW works closely with new volunteers to accommodate a schedule and area that works best for them.

 The area currently with the most critical need for drivers is the north and central areas of the City of Spokane, however due to the growing senior population, there is always an ongoing need for volunteers in all of our service areas throughout Spokane County.  The commitment is small but the rewards are immense. People who are experiencing financial insecurity often have to choose between paying rent and buying groceries. Sometimes, they run out of food assistance (SNAP EBT) and food at the same time. With the high cost of food, it's important for the community to step in and help avoid hunger.

Spokane Helpers Network provides free emergency Meal Kits. Each kit contains the contents of a meal that feeds four. Every kit includes non-perishable protein (e.g., canned chicken), at least one carbohydrate (e.g., noodles, biscuit mix), a canned vegetable, and a canned fruit. When there are children in the home, we also try to include healthy snacks.

We are seeking partners who can collect non-perishable food and assemble Meal Kits (in plastic grocery store bags).

Our volunteer delivery drivers will make sure that the Meal Kits are distributed to hungry households in Airway Heights, Spokane, Mead, and Spokane Valley.

Any number of Meal Kits would be helpful.

People who are experiencing financial insecurity often find it very difficult to afford hygiene products. At the same time, every adult deserves to go to work or classes ready to perform; every child deserves to be clean and ready to learn at school.

Spokane Helpers Network provides free Hygiene Kits for men, women and children.Each kit contains basics such as toothpaste/toothbrush, shampoo/conditioner, deodorant, soap, and razor.

We are seeking partners who can collect hygiene items and assemble Hygiene Kits (in gallon plastic bags).

Any number of kits would be helpful.

Our members have a heart for struggling people who are experiencing temporary financial challenges. They volunteer their time; they donate items for distribute to low-income households; they make financial donations. 

Many of our volunteers donate new items needed for Meal Kits (non-perishable food) and/or for Hygiene Kits (toothpaste, tooth brushes, shampoo/conditioner, deodorant).

Some volunteers help assemble Meal Kits and Hygiene Kits.

Other volunteers deliver free Emergency Meal Kits, as well as Hygiene Kits, to households in Airway Heights, Spokane, Mead, and Spokane Valley.

And, still others, help with behind-the-scenes admin tasks.

 Students may serve in YFC's Center, which is open from about 2:00-6:00 Monday through Thursday. Service will include spending time with the kids who come in, playing sports, board games, video games, etc. Most importantly, fostering relationships and loving on the kids at the center. Our kiddos are ages 11-19. Students are encouraged to help with homework and tutors are greatly needed. There are longer term volunteer opportunities also available such as donor programming and outreach.

The Catalyst is an emergency supportive housing program that provides safe, private, dignified spaces to both men and women where they may temporarily live while taking steps to exit homelessness. Robust care coordination is provided onsite with access to housing-focused opportunities, connections to behavioral health services, primary care, and public benefits.

Volunteers are needed for our mentor program. Volunteers will spend one on one time with our participants by having a meal together, playing basketball outside, playing games, or just visiting. Other volunteer opportunities include serving meals, helping with activities or working on our donation closet.

Looking for a team of 4-6 volunteers to lead Children’s Liturgy at St. Aloysius Parish on Sunday mornings. Experience working with children and familiarity of Catholic Liturgy a plus. This program has two parts:

Children’s Liturgy of the Word (3 Sundays/month)
Children in grades 2-5 will be dropped off before 11:00 AM Mass. When Mass begins, leaders will present the readings of the day then guide discussion and activities based on the readings. Children are returned to their families following the Homily. Planning materials are provided.

Sunday Schedule:
    Set up: 10:15am / Children arrive: 10:45-11am / Children’s Liturgy of the Word: 11-11:30am (approx.)

Children’s & Family Mass (2nd Sunday of each month)

Children of all ages at both 8:30 and 11:00 AM Masses will be invited to sit at Sanctuary steps for the Homily. Leaders will guide the children to sit in the appropriate areas and remain with the children to monitor behavior and help younger children find their families when they return to their seats.

Training

All leaders will receive program training as well as VIRTUS Protecting God’s Children training (as required by the Diocese of Spokane).

Want to do something that's unique and emotionally rewarding? Have an affinity for folks with special needs and/or horses? Then Free Rein is the place for you! 

Our facility offers therapeutic riding lessons for adults and children with disabilities. Lots of volunteers are needed to help these riders stay safe on the horse.

This is a great way to stay involved with a community, work with animals and feel like you're supporting the quality of life for someone whose experience of life might be vastly different than your own. It's a fun and active place to be and is definitely therapeutic for everyone! Not just the riders ;)

NEYC is currently in need of college students willing to help mentor and lead children ages 5-11 in various learning and recreational activities. During the school year (Sept-June) our youth are present 6-8:30 am and 3-6 pm, Monday through Friday. During the summer our youth are present 6a-6p.

Recreation Leaders take charge of a designated age group and lead them through daily activities including: crafts, games, social-emotional learning activities, community building exercises. Leaders are also expected to be models for youth in managing emotions.

We are hosting a blood drive on Thurs 04/20 on the Gonzaga campus!  We need blood donors and volunteers to help recruit blood donors.

Being a volunteer at the Spokane Dementia Community Cafe offers an opportunity to serve community members who experience some form of memory loss, Alzheimer's disease or other dementia and a companion. You will be an integral part of creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging atmosphere for people with memory loss and their care companions. Cafe volunteers plan, implement, and assure a positive experience during cafe events and activities.

Key Activities:

•In collaboration with staff confirm, set up, and clean up the café space each month.

• Meet and greet café attendees at the door, sign them in, welcome them and provide name badges and parking passes.

• Facilitate member engagement in conversation and activities at monthly gatherings.
• Assist in planning and organizing monthly café activities.

• Help organize and distribute Association materials and information to group members and assure a positive experience for attendees.

Our volunteers befriend hospice patients who have a terminal diagnosis. Our goal is to serve you as you serve your patient. These unique friendships bring grace and peace to a person at this place in life. Students often read to a patient, visit, play a game, take their new friend for a walk in their wheel chair, help with light housekeeping, share music or a hobby. Requirements to volunteer with Horizon Hospice: Ideally students serve for the entire school year, not just one semester. Students make a consistent commitment each week. Students may partner with another volunteer to support each other and give flexibility when an exam or need prevents their weekly visit. Students will need to attend training and this can be completed online or in person. We require background checks, driving record checks and TB tests (we pay for all of these items).

At Sacred Heart Children's Hospital, Volunteers play and/or discuss games with patients, siblings, and families to increase socialization in a positive way. May also assist in the support and maintenance of videogame and entertainment devices.

Greater Spokane County Meals on Wheels asks for volunteers to help in our kitchen on week days to assist with general food preparation for the coming week. Times can vary between the hours of 5:00am-2:00pm Monday-Friday, and are flexible Food Handlers cards are not required.

Alzheimer's Association Community Representatives are community engagers that raise awareness of Alzheimer's Association programs, provide disease information and link consumers to Alzheimer's Association services.

This is a great position for someone who is self-motivated, comfortable reaching out to community members and community organizations, has strong verbal and written communication skills, and is 18 or older.

The time commitment is variable and flexible. We ask volunteers in this role to reach out to individuals or organizations weekly and attend 3-5 community events as a representative of the Alzheimer's Association.

The Alzheimer's Association will provide all necessary training.

You can help a child improve their reading skills & gain confidence as a reader.

A reading buddy is a volunteer who loves reading and enjoys spending time with kids.

The Reading Buddy Program pairs volunteers, as mentors, with elementary school students.

As a reading buddy, you meet with a student once per week for 8 weeks to read together one-on-one and foster a love of reading.

You will be matched with one of the employees in our job-training program. You will come to the GN office for one hour each week to meet with him/her. During this time you will serve as a conversation partner to help practice English. You may also be asked to help him/her practice specific workplace English vocabulary or tutor on ESL homework. We will provide a topic list to help guide your conversation times.

The goal of this volunteer program is twofold: First, we want each of our employees to leave their time with GN having a better grasp of English. This will help them in all areas of their life, and will especially help them as they search for full-time work. Second, we want to establish relationship/community between former-refugees and other members of the Spokane community. The relationship you build with your conversation partner will teach both of you and break down barriers preventing Spokane from being a more integrated community.

R.I.S.E. Northwest is looking for volunteers to mentor school aged children and teens who have lost their parent! Help children and teens embark on their grieving and healing journey. BE THEIR CHAMPION! 

Camp Cope is our 16-week program that meets every other Monday from 6:30-7:30pm at Sumit U, 1003 E. Trent Ave.

The goal of Camp Cope is to make connections, build resiliency, and foster healthy coping skills. Trained facilitators lead structured peer groups and encourage group members to express the many feelings that are a part of the grieving process. All activities, selected by a team of Child Life Specialists, follow a theme with age-appropriate objectives, such as recreation, art, expression, and communication, in order to decrease isolation, increase self-confidence, and build resiliency.

A home cooked meal takes one worry away from our families. Rather than spending time purchasing food and fixing a meal, they can concentrate on supporting and comforting their critically ill or injured children.

Gonzaga Family Haven opened its doors to families experiencing homelessness in the Fall of 2021. As the building progresses, this affordable housing property will become the forever home for a total of 73 families by 2022. The Gonzaga Family Haven affordable housing complex is embedded with wraparound support services so that families can stabilize their lives through on-site case management, community events, and skill-building opportunities. The mission of Catholic Charities Senior Services & Volunteer Chore Services is to assist low-income seniors and disabled adults to be able to continue to live independently in their own homes or apartments by providing free chore assistance from volunteers.

The program strives to find volunteers to help with chores such as housework, laundry, transportation, yard work, minor home repairs, and moving assistance, etc. Volunteers can choose which chore or chores they wish to help with and how often they want to help.  Volunteer Chore Services also welcomes help from groups wanting to do a one-time service project.

House of Charity: A Division of Catholic Charities, is a low-barrier homeless shelter that provides emergency services including meals, shelter, showers, laundry, case management, and various other services to an under-served population of homeless, transient, and poor men and women in the Spokane area while assuring preservation of individual dignity. The House of Charity accepts anyone in any condition, including the mentally ill and actively substance abusing.

There are many different opportunities to lend your time and talents, whether it be individually or in a group. Opportunities include but are not limited to; food prep and serving, Resource Room Assistant, food delivery van driving, donation sorting, emergency sleeping program check-in, lawn and tree care, and organizing a donation drive for our commonly needed items such as towels, socks, underwear, and hygiene items.

St. Margaret’s is a shelter for homeless families, located in the lower south hill section of Spokane. St. Margaret’s Shelter provides emergency and transitional shelter to promote positive life changes in a supportive, short-term environment. St. Margaret’s Shelter offers social services that include individualized case management to regain and stabilize housing for families experiencing homelessness.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is recruiting volunteers to become mentors in our MentorU program. This program pairs adult mentors with freshman at local high schools. All mentors must complete a background check, interview and training prior to becoming matched to a mentee. Commitments are for one full school year and interactions with mentees are mainly virtual/online. Topics covered in this program include life skills, and college and career readiness. Each week, a new topic will be provided and matches (mentors + mentees) share thoughts around the topic in an exchange of online messages.

The Science in Action! (SIA) program is a volunteer program for Gonzaga students of all majors to partner with elementary classrooms for a fun, hands-on experience in the classroom. GU student volunteers are placed into groups and paired with a local 1st-5th grade classroom and will make 7-8 visits to the classroom during the semester to leads hands-on science activities.

There is a weekly workshop where volunteer groups receive a lesson plan and materials and get to practice the activity for the week. Examples of activities include making balloon rockets, building a structure with marshmallows and toothpicks and seeing if it can withstand an earthquake, or even testing the pH of popular drinks to draw conclusions about how they might affect our teeth.

This agency is specific to Gonzaga student-athletes enrolled in Community Engaged Learning (CEL) courses.

The Evergreen Club, run by Frontier Behavioral Health, provides social and vocational recovery to adults with mental illness through work and socialization.  Members choose one of three units with which to works: café, thrift store or business unit.  The members develop meal preparation skills, organizational and budgeting skills, clerical skills, and to participate in and learn administrative tasks. Community Engaged Learning students are needed to help volunteer alongside these workers. Volunteers choose a unit they are interested working in and help support members in their jobs. Students will work side by side with members and staff to promote the Work Ordered Day. Students can plan and facilitate social programs, educational presentations and activities to promote health and wellness. The Evergreen Club is open Monday through Friday 8:30 – 4:30 and Saturday 11-2. Call 509-458-7454 to request a volunteer application. 

COVID protocol: Frontier Behavioral Health maintains a ‘Safe Work Plan” that all staff, members and students must adhere to. In compliance with Governor Inslee’s 8/9/21 Proclamation which mandates COVID vaccination for all workers in a healthcare setting, FBH will require all employees, volunteers (including students) and contractors to be fully vaccinated by October 18, 2021, unless the individual is approved for a medical or religious exemption. At this time everyone is required to wear a mask. Medical and religious accommodation request forms are available.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Spokane County is part of a nationwide affiliation of local, autonomous organizations that work to help young people of all backgrounds develop the qualities they need to become responsible citizens and leaders. We offer daily access to a broad range of programs in five Core Program Areas: Education and Career Development, Character and Leadership Development. Health and Life Skills, The Arts, and Sports, Fitness and Recreation. Today, nearly 3,700 girls and boys are taking advantage of the programs, activities and services provided by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Spokane County. They benefit from trained, caring, professional staff and volunteers who help them take control of their lives, envision productive futures and achieve their goals.

The Northtown Club is located at 544 E. Providence Ave. just three blocks west of Longfellow Elementary School. The Northtown Club serves school age youth between 6 and 18 years of age. Student volunteers may serve in a club working as a mentor to youth members after school between 2pm and 6PM on school days. The Club is open 8am-6pm on school-off days. After school support - mentoring, activities at the clubhouse, "hands-on" support, can lead activities or project. Mainly keeping students engaged, safe, and happy. Alternatively the main office appreciates the support of volunteers in program management, outreach and related activities in support of the clubs as well as the sports teams. 

We have several opportunities for students for short and long term service commitments. Our goal is to provide activities that lead to enrichment for the kids that attend. Broadly, we focus on the following areas; the arts, character and leadership, education and career, sports fitness and recreation and health and life skills. We have mentoring programs for longer periods of time, which is for a year or more. In our core programs, the kids that attend are between the ages of 6-18. The minimum age of our volunteers is 18. Volunteers must follow COVID protocol (Spokane Public Schools guidelines). 

You can help hungry people in our community. Please join other volunteers to help sort and pack produce, food drive or bulk food items in preparation for distribution to our emergency food partners. Second Harvest's volunteers provide a wide range of valuable services that help feed 50,000 hungry people each week in the Inland Northwest. The Express program provides quality, convenient childcare for Spokane Public Schools students, grades K-6 who are registered in school, in a safe, nurturing and enriching environment. Activities are planned to foster growth and development of the whole child. Express children participate in real-time distance learning from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Similarly, SPS Day Camp is available for district-enrolled students and children of SPS staff, and covers the real-time distance learning schedule for students in grades K-6 who are registered in school. Students receive structure and routines that help them engage in their real-time distance learning. These programs are accepting volunteers to assist with youth engagement through in-person opportunities.

Adult & Teen Challenge coordinates two large events per year. We are seeking someone who is interested in being an event manager for our golf tournament in July and our gala in October. Duties include: finding and booking venues, working together with clients and suppliers, handling detailed coordination, managing budgets and invoicing, organizing accreditation, managing risk, and presenting post-event reports.

Skills: Computer knowledge, ability to teamwork in a fast-paced environment, willingness to serve in multiple areas.

St. Aloysius Gonzaga School is educating children to be leaders in action modeled on Christ. We are a preschool - 8th grade school. St. Aloysius school is located two blocks from Gonzaga’s campus.

We rely on the construction or handyman skills of our facility maintenance volunteers to keep the facilities running smoothly. You’d assist the facility maintenance manager and crew with repair projects and improvements that can be made. We’d expect you for a few hours a week when you can, sometime between Monday to Friday, 9am to 3pm.

Volunteers are a crucial part of caring for patients. The Gentiva Hospice volunteer program is designed to meet the needs of our hospice patients, while giving volunteers a rewarding experience. Volunteers offer support for hospice patients and their families in a number of ways. Patient support volunteers spend 2-4 hours once a week visiting with a patient, chatting, reading, playing checkers, watching TV, singing, playing or listening to music, scrap booking, helping with light housework or yard-work, grocery shopping, visiting with a registered therapy pet (we have information about registering your dog), giving massages (licensed therapist), giving haircuts/style/manicure (licensed cosmetologist), or brightening a patient's day by delivering donated flowers, birthday cakes/balloons, etc.; Patient care volunteers can also provide respite care for the caregiver by sitting with a patient, giving the caregiver time to get out or take a much needed nap. Administrative volunteers fill a special need by providing office assistance such as filing, clerical duties, data entry; collating/assembling information packets or forms, assisting in Medical records, etc.; Volunteers with craft skills can make cards, make birthday cakes or cookies, or sew/knit/crochet comfort items that are treasured by hospice patients. Volunteering is an excellent way to add experience to your college application or work resume and is an amazing way to give back to the community by making a lasting impression on the life and hearts of patients and families.

INCG has a position open on its Board of Directors for a Tool Librarian. This is one of the critical community engagement positions for this 501c3 nonprofit and speaks to regional sustainability and growth of the local food network. The INCG Board of Directors has drafted a comprehensive Tool Library and Sustainability Context - the next step is to review and refine this, and develop its vision into a business plan. Until filled, President Kathleen Callum is acting as pro tem (temporary) Tool Librarian. 

Did you know the average drill is used 8 minutes during its lifetime and then discarded to become part of the waste stream clogging landfills? A tool library saves people money, keeps tools and equipment from landfills, and grows community. The INCG's vision is to create a main tool library in Spokane and satellite branches that will work with public libraries to serve urban and rural participants throughout the region. Tools and equipment such as as a Food Freezer/Dehydrator or access to a truck and trailer share (e.g., for bark, compost, or manure) will help grow the local food network and local garden or food businesses. The INCG Board envisions the main Tool Library and its branches as a site for educational sustainability educational demos, including "The Greenest Building Is Already Built" and "Strive For 5% Organic Matter" to maintain soil health and avert soil erosion.

Become part of a Tool Librarian Entrepreneurial team that helps INCG and its President 1) read, edit, refine, and make recommendations for improvement of a tool library and sustainability demo vision/plan, 2) develop a Tool Library Business Plan 3) advertise for an entrepreneurial tool librarian to fill the vacant board of directors position, 4) locate good potential sites for a tool library that satisfy the board's vision of growing the local food network and historic neighborhood restoration, 5) begin to forge partnerships with other government, academic, private sector, nonprofit and other organizations to build the tool library, 6) start cataloging and managing existing tools and equipment, 7) marketing and engaging the community regarding the sustainability of tool libraries and 8) and seeking donations of tools and equipment or sustainability demo ideas.

The centerpiece of this INCG Service Learning opportunity is the development of a viable and feasible Tool Library Business Plan. Preference may be given to business or economics or marketing students given the entrepreneurial nature of this project, to engineering and technology students given the project's goal, or perhaps tp environmental and education students interested in sustainability (although this part of the project is much farther down the road). We are seeking 2-5 students to become part of this pilot entrepreneurial team over these first semesters. Future teams from Dr. Lally's or other GU service learning classes will build on your completed business plan.

Come help INCG develop and staff this vital position (vacant) on its Board of Directors. Ideally, INCG would like to offer 1-2 work parties per month at school, youth program, service or community gardens. Such public gardens provide a gateway to food accessbility and growing the sustainable local food network. The need is especially heavy during the fall harvest season (August through October). Many gardens harvest unattended beds during this season, prior to the fall frosts, or harvest community beds, for donation to food banks. Your help is vital so that food doesn't rot in the gardens or go to waste, and for addressing poverty and food hunger. One in 11 households in the area is food insecure. This rate goes up to one in five households with young children. Help meet this need by serving as Volunteer Work Party Chair or work party volunteers.

We are primarily looking for a motivated person to schedule and lead the work parties, work with the INCG Tabling/Outeach team to staff the work parties, and help gardens in our region. Ideally, this individual would also volunteer as a candidate for this vacant position on the INCG Board of Directors, however, such a nonprofit board commitment is not a requirement - reporting occasionally to the board, the president, or Dr. Lally is also an acceptable way to communicate regarding upcoming work party dates and locations and missions. INCG Board Meetings are monthly, the 3rd Wednesday, 5:00-6:30 pm, WSU Extension. Saturday (or weekend) availability for INCG Volunteer Work Parties is preferred to rally public participation. Ability to use facebook to create and advertise events to the public is a must. Access to private transportation, especially a truck or trailer, is especially helpful - however, lack of access to private transportation is not a deal breaker. But, do be aware that the need for many gardens is a load of bark, compost, manure, or cardboard. Until the INCG Tool & Equipment Library (and Truck Share) is up and running, lack of access to a truck or trailer is a big gap in our services. The volunteer for the lead must be comfortable with hand tools such as loppers, hand saws, garden forks, and showing volunteers how to use them safely. Familiarity with rototillers and other power equipment, and their safety requirements is also big plus. We are especially seeking someone comfortable with inspiring or learning to inspire crews of random people in a field situation and assuring their safety and health (e.g., access to water on hot days). We are seeking one person or a team of two people working closely together to fill this vacancy.

We are also seeking Work Party volunteers who love to work outdoors in gardens. Experience leading work parties or working in gardens is not necessary, but volunteer must be willing to serve outdoors in all kinds of weather and engage in physical labor. The labor involved may be isolated, for example, weeding or harvesting at gardens or staining a picnic table or setting up season extension gear or shoveling compost to apply to gardens.

INCG is seeking to fill a vacant position on its Board of Directors for Education Chair. Alternatively, INCG is seeking committee members to move forward with the Education Chair's duties, grow the organization, and meet its mission. Optimally, this service learning project volunteer with work with all board members during and apart from its monthly meeting, the 3rd Wednesday, 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm, at WSU Extension, 222 North Havana. If the volunteers instead opt to serve as committee members to work on the organization's education project, they will work closely with Dr. Roisin Lally, who is also the Kids in the Garden Chair serving on the Board of Directors. Preference may be given to students or GU community in education or with a strong education interest, and second to those with a strong community gardening or local food interest.

One of the first goals of this position is to brainstorm potential topics of broad interest to the school, youth, service, and community gardening community and the local food network community - to be delivered at the Spring and Fall Special Guest Speaker meetings. The position lines up educational guest speakers for these meetings and coordinates with the board regarding speaker stipends.

The second goal of this position is to grow and maintain INCG's Speaker Bureau talks listed on the website and given by the organization's board, committee, and members. The Education Chair or Education Committee members advertise the existence of the Speaker's Bureau to the general public. Talks can often be used to engage the community and rally it around a flagging school, youth, service or other garden and draw attention to that garden in the eye of the public.

The third goal of this position is to help support the provision of the four classes given to underserved gardens in Spokane County through a partnership program. Partners consist of the Master Gardeners of Spokane County, the Spokane County Master Gardener Foundation, Gonzaga University, BECU, and gardens like Chief Garry Community Garden, the Holy Cross Nepali-Speaking Bhutanese Community Garden, Hifumi En Garden, and Fresh Start Community Garden. The four classes consist of Basic Veggies, Composting For Community Gardeners, Food Preservation, and Season Extension.

The fourth goal of this position is to support the Kids in the Garden program and help grow INCG's capacity to meet the organization's educational mission. At a minimum, the Kids in the Garden program consist of tabling at events with a lot of families such as Earth Day or the Fall Compost Fair as well as kids programs accompanying the above classes given to underserved gardens. At a maximum, the INCG Education Chair or Committee Members will compile or create curricula that support provision of independent Kids in the Garden programs as schools, Sunday schools, home schools, summer programs, or other venues.

Assist INCG President Kathleen Callum and GU Professor Roisin Lally with daily (or every other day) watering and weeding of GU and community garden beds. GU rents two beds. Also needing watering are community strawberry bed, raspberry beds, and herb/flower garden.

Currently, the position for INCG Tabling/Outreach chair on the Board of Directors is vacant. Help PR Chair Sherri Robinson (and acting Tabling/Outreach chair) get the word out about INCG, school/youth/service/community gardens, and growing the local food network throughout the Inland Northwest region by tabling or community outreach at various events and venues. Bonus points for helping us locate a volunteer who is interested in filling this position on the board of directors, meeting monthly, the 3rd Wednesday, 5:00-6:30 pm, at WSU Extension, 222 North Havana (near the fairgrounds).

Tabling/Community Outreach volunteers will needed at a minimum for the Logan Block Party (September 7th), the INCG Fall Harvest Potluck & Meeting (October 25th), the Fall Leaf Festival & Compost Fair (October 26), and other events.

INCG is seeking 2-4 people to serve as assistant garden liaisons. The position of Garden Liaison Chair is currently vacant on the INCG Board of Directors. In the meantime, Secretary Karen Adkins will supervise the assistant garden liaison volunteers. These assistants will contact school, youth program, service, and community gardens to explain INCG's mission, verify if all contact and location and other garden information listed on our website is accurate, and begin an inventory of any garden needs (e.g., volunteer work party, need a manager, need bed repair, funds for new infrastructure, etc.). If Karen Adkins directs so, some update to information on the website may be undertaken. There are about 100 gardens and other resource agencies to contact and verify listed information. This is a service project that can be accomplished largely from the comfort of your own cell phone or from your dorm room/student housing! However, it is expected that most garden contacts (if working) may be more available after hours or on weekends.

Program Description: Green Corps Spokane is community-based environmental stewardship program engaging citizens to act for the common good, improving local ecosystems, social networks, and community well-being through restoration, revitalization, and beatification of public parks, open space, and natural areas.

Position Description: Volunteers will lead and/or assist with the cleaning, greening, and restoration of public lands in the City of Spokane and Spokane County.   Examples of activities volunteers may be engaged in: removing weeds and other invasive vegetation, native plant restoration, mulching with wood chips, sheet mulching, new tree planting, minor pruning, watering, forest health and fire mitigation, and some interaction with the public. Green Corps events and work sites will be determined by the agency partners. Partnering agencies will assign staff mentors to train and supervise the volunteers.

General Requirements: Ability to work under physically-demanding conditions, including cold, hot, and wet weather. Desire to learn and implement best management practices. Ability to maintain a positive working relationship with agency staff, other volunteers, and community members. Attend at least three training and/or projects events per year.   Must be 16 years or older.

Station Volunteers

As a station volunteer, you commit to volunteer at Spark Central for 2.5 hours once a week—any shift you choose. You’ll welcome people who come in, run the station so that staff can focus on their duties, be a resource for those seeking help with a project, or share with those who just want to chat about who you are and what you know.  It's a great way to help others, connect with like-minded people, and hang out in a space where exciting connections will be happening all the time.

HOURS POSSIBLE:  2.5 - 12 hours per week (up to volunteer)

REQUIREMENTS:

Therapeutic Recreation Services (TRS) strives to provide enjoyable specialized and adaptive recreational activities for individuals with disabilities. Our purpose is to create positive experiences that develop appropriate leisure and social skills in our participants.

Students can participate as volunteers in classes or recreational events for individuals with developmental disabilities. (A schedule of classes and events will be provided.) Students can select classes of interest, and plan to attend regular class sessions as a classroom volunteer. Students can also participate as volunteers in the TRS Skiing Program. Assistance is needed for adaptive skiing programs (mobility limitations), developmental disabilities skiing programs (cognitive limitations). Individuals with minimal skiing proficiency can be of assistance with these events, which include alpine and Nordic skiing. (Skiing Program trainings schedule will be announced.) Please contact Alice Busch to discuss background check and other required forms. Students will visit with Alice Busch (Recreation Supervisor) to discuss skills and interests.

MBR needs service-learning students to help with study hall from 6:30 to 8:00 pm Sunday through Thursday evenings.  One-on-one tutoring.

A Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery volunteer augments the staff/child ratio by participating in childcare and daily routine activities under the direction of the staff.

 Examples of Duties

Crisis Telephonists answer all calls that come in at First Call for Help. They are expected to provide supportive listening, information and referral resources, crisis intervention, and when needed, link consumers to professional staff.

Approximately 30 hours of training is provided to all telephonists prior to them answering the crisis line. Telephonists will be trained to operate all phone and computer equipment used on the job, as well as skills in supportive listening, referral resources, suicide assessment and crisis de-escalation. While on the job, telephonists will also learn about the mental health system and how it works in our community.

GENERAL FUNCTION:
Volunteer is responsible for the supporting the Program Director and assist with the development, implementation, and supervision of the after school program. He/She has a goal of providing excellent after school care for middle school students (6th-8th grade). It is his/her responsibility to make sure that the HUB 360 standards and procedures are followed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assist with the development and implementation of all aspects of the After School Program

2. Develop a positive relationship with students

3. Keep the Program Director informed of all program issues as they arise especially when related to the children’s behavior and development

4. Be familiar with HUB Sports Center mission, policies and procedures 8. Participate with the students in HUB 360 program activities

5. Be an enthusiastic, dedicated, reliable and committed leader of our team

This individual/s will assist with homework and outside activities once homework is done. Activities include, tutoring, activity play, cub and boy scouts. We are in need of eight volunteers that can assist us Monday-Thursday from 5:30-7:00pm.

NC needs instrumental musicians who would be willing to work with our 7th grade band and strings students Monday - Thursday from 2:30 - 3:30 in the afternoon. The class has violins, viola, cello, flute, clarinet, trumpet, alto sax, and percussion all in one class. Some students have two years experience on their instrument; some are beginners.

North Central High School is piloting a new choice school on our campus. We have 7th grade students attending middle school in our IST (Institute of Science and Technology) who want to continue their band and strings studies in a seventh period class. Tutors are needed to work with strings students on Mondays and Wednesdays and with band students on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school from 2:30 to 3:30. Approximately 63% of NC students qualify for free and reduced lunch; their music education has been limited to the experiences provided by Spokane Public Schools. They are talented and eager to grow as musicians but need one- on-one and small group coaching provided by experienced musicians. Contact Norilee Kimball at 354-6173 for more information.

Immediate need for 3-4 volunteers September 16, 17, 18. On-going need for volunteers to help with reception, clerical, visiting with patients and welcoming guests, Times and days for these tasks can vary.

REACH Ministries matches HIV-affected children with REACH mentors. Even though our office is in Tacoma, we are a regional ministry and have many children needing mentors in the Spokane area. We are looking for some volunteers who could help plan and carry out after school activities and/or help with homework with kids at one of SNAP's housing properties.  Experience or studies in childhood development, or hopes to go into teaching or working with kids would be great for this opportunity!  Commitment can be flexible, but we need volunteers available from 3.30-5pm on various weekdays, on an ongoing basis.  Help make a difference in kids' lives and be in touch if this sounds like fun for you!

Address provided is for the SNAP admin office, not where volunteer opportunity is located.  Public transportation to the site is limited, so having personal transportation would be preferred. 

Duties: To become one or more of the Residents' trustworthy and reliable friend by getting to know them personally, sharing yourself personally if you wish and visiting them often to the point where they anticipate your next visit of quality and attention. So many of our Resident's need this service more than one could imagine.

If interested, you would need to come in to fill out the volunteer paperwork & go through orientation. We would then pair you with a Resident who might not get many visitors or who does not participate in many of the activities offered here at Providence Emilie Court.

We ask that companions visit once a week, the date and time would be whatever worked best for both the Resident and the volunteer.

If you are able to play and instrument or sing and would be interested in performing at Providence Emilie Court we would love to have you. The dates/times are flexible, would just have to fit into our Activity Schedule. This could be an individual or a group.

As part of our activity program we like to offer one or more educational presentations per month. We would like to have a volunteer(s) that would like to present a topic that would be relevant to Residents at Providence Emilie Court. It could be related to health issues, legal issues such as living wills, etc.

If presenting educational topics would be of interest to you, we could have volunteers present one topic a piece, or have a volunteer(s) who present multiple different topics.

Help kids connect with their creative side in the art room. There are endless possibilities of what can happen in the art room with paint, pottery , glue and endless supply of materials that are ready to be used. You will assist/ lead and create which art project kids will be working on for that day.
