Volunteer: After-School Tutors Needed

Have a passion for education & mentoring at-risk students? Need class credit hours and extra cash for books?

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Family Outreach Center is looking for college volunteers with experience in education, math, or English to become after-school tutors! Tutors work one-on-one or in small groups with K-6th grade Title I Elementary students offering remedial services in Math, English, reading, and language arts. This is a great opportunity for education majors looking to create and develop Student Learning Plans (SLPs) and gain valuable experience working in an Elementary classroom. This opportunity is also targeted for students who have a passion for youth empowerment & mentoring at-risk children.

When: Sessions run from 3:00-4:45 pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Tutors can sign up for 1, 2, or all 3 of the tutoring periods that run for about 8-weeks or 24 academic school days. Where: Grant Elementary School (1300 E 9th Ave, Spokane, WA)

Tutors, for each tutoring period successfully completed, you earn a $300 stipend to cover traveling expenses and provide an incentive for consistent attendance (potential of earning up to $900 for the academic school year). College credit hours are also available for relevant and appropriate courses.
