Community Engaged Learning (CEL)
Frequently Asked Questions
Who can I contact for help with CEL?
Contact your course supporting intern via email! If you don’t know who your course supporting intern is then email cel@gonzaga.edu. For more urgent matters, please email Mary Kelly at kellym2@gonzaga.edu.
What are the CEL drop in hours?
Monday 9-2 / Tuesday 9-12 & 1-3:30/ Wednesday 8-5/ Thursday 8-10:30 & 11-3:30 / Friday 8-2 in Hemmingson 206.
Why can’t I login?
Are you using your GU username and password? You use these same credentials for Gonzaga Connected. If you need to reset your password, you will need to reset this for your entire GU account. This can be done on Zagmail or Blackboard. TIP: Be sure you are not adding “@zagmail.gonzaga.edu” at the end of your username when logging in!
Why can’t I find my CEL course on Gonzaga Connected?
Did you click the link that was emailed to you during the first week of classes? You must click that link to be registered in your course on Gonzaga Connected. If you added the class late, then you may not have received this link. Please provide us with your name, email, and course title/number, so that we can send this link to you as soon as possible.
The organization I’m serving at isn’t approved for my CEL course. Can I still get my hours to count?
Please discuss this with your course instructor first! Once you receive approval from your instructor, you will need to fill out a Community Engaged Learning Agreement form and a Community Partner Reference sheet. These forms are attached in the email sent to you from Mary Kelly that contained the link to register on Gonzaga Connected. You may also receive these forms in Hemm 206. Filling these forms out for multiple courses? You may put all required information and signatures on one form. TIP: Be sure to attribute your hours to all relevant CEL courses when tracking them on Gonzaga Connected.
I need to turn in my Spokane Public Schools form or a copy of my license? Where should I turn it in?
If you are turning in an SPS form and/or copy of your license because you are in a CEL course where all students are serving at one site (ex: ENGL 101 @ Logan Elementary), please turn your SPS form into your professor or to CCE for a CEL intern or Mary Kelly. If you are turning in an SPS form for a volunteer program that you are participating in independently, whether you are in a CEL course or not, please turn in your SPS form to the relative program/program coordinator(s).
Where should I serve?
There are plenty of service opportunities available to you on and off-campus. Speak with a CEL intern during drop in hours or a student liaison to hear about some of the different opportunities that could be suitable for you within the bounds of your schedule.
