Our coalition works in both community and school based settings to provide a variety of evidence based programs such as - parenting courses, social emotional learning small groups, vape cessation groups, and programs that cover general alcohol, tobacco and other drug information and healthy habit building. In addition to things such as this our coalition is works on promoting overall community wellness by putting on community wide efforts such as - providing kids zones/crafts at markets, fun activities for families, medication take back days, substance education nights, and more! A newer effort we have recently been working on is working with students to check in on if our local businesses are doing their due diligence when it comes to checking ID's and keeping nicotine products out of hands of youth.
With this we are always in need of individuals to get trained and help implement our evidence based programs so we can expand our reach within our schools and strengthen prevention efforts to prevent youth earlier on from substance use, and support youth who are wanting to make the change and lean into healthier habits. That being said, that means we are also always looking for folks interested in working to support caregivers in our courses that can help provide space for questions/answers during those pivotal years with their youth. With Reward & Reminder being new and opening to expand number of businesses to work with, we are hoping to onboard more students to be able to increase number of visits through the school year.
Then we are always looking for friendly faces to engage with community at medication take back days, tabling events, fun kids activities etc to share about the coalition but more importantly help build those pro-social opportunities in accessible spaces.
We are also always welcome to any ideas students/staff have on how to better engage with community, youth and caregivers!
