Who We Are

Horizon Hospice and Palliative Care, cares for people and their families who are facing a life limiting illness with a Hospice diagnosis of 6 months to live. We have been serving the families of Spokane County for 25 years.

What We Do

Our volunteers help play an important role in helping our patients live life to the fullest one day at a time, even at the end of life.  Our volunteers help with administrative tasks in our office or work directly with patients.  Our volunteers are able to build life validating relationships with their patients that bring a new and vital friendship to both the volunteer and the patient.

Volunteer opportunities with Horizon Hospice include:

Visiting patients: reading to them, visiting/companionship, watching TV with. Also, are some possible errands like raking leaves or shoveling snow, helping with housework, playing an instrument, sharing a hobby, sitting with a patient so that the caregiver can go to the store or go to church, military Veteran acknowledgement or help make a “last wish” come true.  Some volunteers have helped patients take a last fishing trip, go to a buffet one more time, organize a surprise party. The possibilities are limited only to your imagination and effort and the patient’s ability to participate.

Admin Support/Work in our office (N. Spokane): helping with administrative duties – filing, making packets, copying, organizing, phone calls, etc.

Work from home/special projects – making blankets for patients (knotted fleece, knitting, crocheting), crafts for patients, helping with volunteer fairs, creating newsletters, etc.

Special Therapies – Music Therapy, Massage Therapy, Pet Therapy and Personal Care Therapy (hair cuts, nails). More information on these upon request.
