- Position Description
A Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery volunteer augments the staff/child ratio by participating in childcare and daily routine activities under the direction of the staff.
Examples of Duties
- Assist staff by interacting with children during indoor/outdoor activities.
- Assist staff in daily activities including serving meals and clean-up, organizing the playroom and other activity areas, helping with laundry, and assisting with nap or bedtimes.
- Requirements
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- Commit to one 3 hour shift a week for the duration of your semester, or longer
- Successfully pass screening process – this includes an interview, reference checks, and 1 background check
- Obtain a current Washington State Food Workers Card – info provided at interview
- Have a current Tuberculosis (TB) test – info provided at interview
- Have current TDaP booster (good for 10 years)
- Obtain a yearly flu shot
- Be willing and able to follow the guidance of staff and maintain strict confidentiality
- Have the physical ability to safely interact with active children (birth through 6 years of age)

- Have an understanding of the emotional needs of children
- Have experience working with children ages birth through six years of age
- Be reliable
- Have a willingness to “pitch in” where needed
- Be sensitive to the interactions with staff
- Be willing to accept each child without judgment
- Exhibit emotional maturity and stability
