Childcare Volunteer

• Position Description

A Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery volunteer augments the staff/child ratio by participating in childcare and daily routine activities under the direction of the staff.

 Examples of Duties

1. Assist staff by interacting with children during indoor/outdoor activities.
2. Assist staff in daily activities including serving meals and clean-up, organizing the playroom and other activity areas, helping with laundry, and assisting with nap or bedtimes.

• Requirements

1. Must be 16 years of age or older
2. Commit to one 3 hour shift a week for the duration of your semester, or longer
3. Successfully pass screening process – this includes an interview, reference checks, and 1 background check
4. Obtain a current Washington State Food Workers Card – info provided at interview
5. Have a current Tuberculosis (TB) test – info provided at interview
6. Have current TDaP booster (good for 10 years)
7. Obtain a yearly flu shot
8. Be willing and able to follow the guidance of staff and maintain strict confidentiality
9. Have the physical ability to safely interact with active children (birth through 6 years of age)

2. Have an understanding of the emotional needs of children
3. Have experience working with children ages birth through six years of age
4. Be reliable
5. Have a willingness to “pitch in” where needed
6. Be sensitive to the interactions with staff
7. Be willing to accept each child without judgment
8. Exhibit emotional maturity and stability
