How Just One’s Halloween Event Works
Every October, Just One transforms our after-school program into a vibrant hub of creativity, community, and spooky fun! Youth ages 10 and older spend the first few weeks of the month (October 1–17) diving into hands-on Halloween-themed art projects, building props, crafting decorations, and designing costumes—all while forming meaningful connections with mentors, peers, and college interns.
From October 20–23, the program shifts into production mode. During this time, youth ages 13+ help convert our entire facility into a fully immersive, youth-designed haunted house. Using tarps, lighting, hand-made props, and their own imaginations, participants turn our space into a thrilling maze filled with surprises, sound effects, and scares.
On October 24–25, the haunted house opens to the public from 6 PM to 9 PM. Earlier those days, from 3 PM to 6 PM, youth help finalize the setup and rehearse their roles—whether they're spooky guides, silent scarers, or part of the behind-the-scenes crew. They’re also trained in how to deliver safe scares, take breaks, and create a welcoming but creepy experience for all guests.
The Halloween event is completely free to attend and serves as a fundraiser for our Thanksgiving “Projects in a Bag” initiative. It’s one of the most beloved times of the year at Just One—a space where creativity, leadership, and fun collide in the most unforgettable way.
