Who We Are

World Relief is a Christian humanitarian nonprofit that has a contract with the federal government to resettle refugees in Spokane.  In addition to Resettlement services, we offer wrap-around services and church and community support to welcome refugees and other immigrants.

Our work depends heavily on volunteer support, with a variety of ways volunteers can be involved. Our volunteer orientation and refugee simulation program provide invaluable information, training and opportunities for anyone looking to work with refugees. Students serving at World Relief must complete an application process and screening, as well as a mandatory orientation meeting, lasting two hours. (This will count toward your total service hours.)

We’re looking for compassionate students to serve 2-4 hours per week by:

  • Practicing English with refugees
  • Teaching refugees how to ride the bus to appointments and/or transporting them to appointments
  • Attending airport arrivals and helping with transport to their housing
  • Case management and data entry assistance
  • Donations assistance

World Relief requires roughly 2-4 hours per week over 3 months or longer, so that volunteers can establish a meaningful rapport with the service population. An application, background and reference checks will need to be completed for any short term volunteer service.  One-time volunteer opportunities are also available, omitting the need for the extensive onboarding process, and are best done with groups of people.  Donation drives, event set up, or warehouse help are examples of one-time volunteer opportunities.

The timing of the volunteer onboard process and placement varies. Our orientations are usually scheduled one time per month, and because our needs fluctuate, we cannot guarantee a placement right away, so it is best to start the application process early. Please contact the volunteer coordinator to make sure we can accommodate any time constraints with your service.

For students interested in internship opportunities (12+ hours per week for 10 weeks), more information can be found online at: https://worldreliefspokane.org/internships

What We Do

In community with the local church, World Relief supports refugees and other immigrants as they are transformed economically, socially, and spiritually. World Relief Spokane currently provides refugee resettlement, employment services, educational services, extended case management and events in our Friendship Center.  We have been welcoming refugees for over 30 years!
